Saving For Your Wedding

A recent survey has suggested that a typical wedding in the United Kingdom is now costing on average around £18,500.

In a bid to save costs, up to 80,000 couples are planning to get married abroad in the next 12 months, which is up by 15% on previous years. However, if you are planning on getting married in the UK then here are a few pointers to help you when saving for your big day.

Setting The Right Budget For You

Before setting your budget, it’s best to do a little research as to what the average wedding costs are for things such as venues, photography, and flowers, in your area. It’s only realistic to be setting a budget of say, £10,000, if you are able to get what you want for your wedding within that. Also, be careful not to overlook any smaller costs such as your manicure or gifts for bridesmaids, as all of these will add up and take a bite out of your budget.

Prioritise Your Spending

It’s best to start by making a list of every expense that you can think of relating to your wedding, then going through this list with your other half and decide which items on the list are most important to the both of you. You will then know where to prioritise your spending and where to allocate your budget.

Think About Your ‘Must-Haves’

It’s very easy to be drawn into the ‘must-haves’ when planning your wedding. Having a multi-tiered wedding cake may be the traditional thing to do, but how about having cupcakes instead?

DIY

Doing certain aspects of your wedding yourself are a great way to save money. Things like making your own invites or wedding flowers can save lots of your budget. However, be warned – taking on too many DIY tasks can be very time consuming, and having to call upon professionals at the last minute will probably cost more than if you were to ask them to do the job early on.

The Bottom Line

The main thing to remember is that no matter how large or small your budget may be, this is your wedding day. You will have your dream wedding by spending money on the things that are most important to you.
